Russell, these are cool. I about had a cow when I saw the black one with inlaid dots. That's amazing. I like all these wood and wood with abalone rosettes, gets my juices flowing. That last one though must be cocobolo in Red Cedar, I really like the look. Have you considered a 45 degree or 90 degree turn to the grain? Anyway, the next coco I do is getting a rosette like this, and a coco headstock. I'm savin' this pic. |

Wide, wood with bwbbwb purfling rosettes, only two I've done to date. I'll be slipping the next few down just a hair (to fit the models), but I do like this style: London Plane ('lacewood') ![]() Burl Maple ![]() |

Here's a funky/simple one I just finished for build #3. It's just a bunch of BWB purfling on curly sycamore inset into a Lutz top. Skip ![]() |

As a classical builder I usually just install a premade rosette, but now I think I'd like to make my own. Here's my first attempt. I didn't have any of the cool MOP or abalam, so I had to use what was around the shop. Does anybody recognize the wood? I know at least one guy here should... ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers! John |
